A Fine 17th Century Hand Wrought Iron Jewel or Coin Casket Strong Box
A Fine Antique 17th Century Hand Wrought Iron Jewel or Coin Casket Strong Box most likely German. The box overall measures 7.25" wide x 4 1/8" deep x 4.25" high. The bottom of the box has a unidentified armorer's / maker's mark that appears to be a "HAMMER" incorporates with a "M" and a "G". The top of the box is made with decorative rosettes (the same type of rosettes are used and found on armor elements of the period especially around the exterior periphery of helmets). The front panel has a complete lock and retains a working key. The overall condition is excellent for the age. A wonderful example !
 NOTE: The interior of the box is painted an aqua blue color and in white "Hütet Euch vor dem ersten streit" translates to "Beware of the first quarrel !". This strong box is most likely a wedding gift.
